What does the Bible say about forgiveness?
Scripture calls believers to forgive others as God has forgiven them, tying the way we forgive to the grace we have received.
Jesus teaches, "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you" (Matthew 6:14). Paul instructs, "forbearing one another, and forgiving one another... even as Christ forgave you" (Colossians 3:13).
The Bible presents forgiveness as central to the Christian life. It does not necessarily mean pretending harm didn't happen or staying in danger — but it does mean releasing the debt rather than nursing revenge.
