What does the Bible say about fear?

The Bible repeatedly urges believers not to be afraid, grounding courage in God's presence and love rather than in circumstances.
Paul writes, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7). In Isaiah 41:10, God says, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee."
The phrase "fear not" and its variations appear throughout Scripture. The consistent message is not that fear never comes, but that God's presence is the reason not to be ruled by it.
